Families occasionally choose to broaden their search to include applicants who reside in different areas or farther away. The ROTA nanny would fly in for their shift and then fly out at the end of it for these positions. This is especially prevalent when the family has many home bases, rotations are lengthy (at least a week), and/or include a lot of travel. ROTA nannies will receive reimbursement for their travel expenses or be able to make purchases using a work card for these jobs. Transport to and from work might not be covered if the nanny chooses to fly in and out.
Sure, if it's feasible. When it's feasible, some families prefer that the two ROTA nannies physically overlap. It's possible that the incoming nanny will arrive at 1pm and depart at 2pm. In order to ensure continuity of care and prevent coverage gaps, a physical overlap is typically required for younger children, such as newborns and toddlers. Since the older kids are in school throughout the day, it is simpler to avoid a physical overlap for them.
The nanny team should, at the very least, have a plan in place for communication and informing other nannies of any developments or changes that occur during the shift. This could be done via phone, email, or simply by utilizing an app like Notes or BabyTracker.
Anything less than four days is usually too much "switching" and doesn't allow anyone—children or ROTA nannies alike—to get settled. Rotations should be between five and fourteen days on and off, with lengthier rotations of three or four weeks if there involves overseas travel.
The ROTA nanny should anticipate being available to work the entire duration of their shift if their role is 24/7 "on call." Usually, this also entails having a monitor overnight. The ROTA nanny should be prepared to be available at any moment during the shift, whether or not they are physically present at work, if the role is live-out "on call."
Both live-in and live-out rotational nanny options are available. The norm is to live-out when off and live-in during the shift if the job is deemed live-in ROTA. In contrast, a traditional live-in nanny arrangement allows the nanny to live in while working. Living in the house, a guest house on the property, or adjacent staff housing are all possible options for live-in ROTA. The nanny will commute to and from work every day for live-out ROTA, and she will only stay overnight when requested.
ROTA roles must still be split down into standard and overtime hourly rates, even though they are typically listed as a yearly sum. It is typical for the normal hourly rate to be lower than a usual 5-day work week nanny position due to the number of hours performed during a rota nanny position. The reason for this is the rise in the number of overtime hours put in during each shift. It is advised to calculate a competitive wage for rotations by working backward from your intended yearly remuneration.
These jobs are subject to the same overtime regulations as any other nanny work, albeit they vary according on the locale. ROTA nannies are only compensated for the hours they work in these rotating employment; they are not compensated for weeks off or non-work.
Although this will differ from ROTA nanny to ROTA nanny, if the normal shift is 24/7 when "on," there is typically no overnight or trip fee. If the nanny shares a room with the child or children, we may occasionally see an increase in income; however, during a 24/7 rota, the nanny will usually have the monitor overnight and be "on call" for the entire shift. Rates are therefore greater for occupations that rotate.
This will differ depending on the role. Many businesses believe that a rotating role already provides a significant amount of vacation time. However, it should be noted that since rotating employment in the US are compensated based only on hours worked, that time off is not paid. In order to allow the ROTA nanny to take a longer paid vacation if they so want, some employers will provide one week of paid time off.
